Nigerian rapper Ice Prince recently reflected on the bittersweet memories of his early music career, revealing that his late mother only got a glimpse of his success before her passing. In an emotional interview, he shared how she witnessed the release of his breakout hit Ole Ku but didn’t live to see him fully embrace his “Ice Prince” stardom.
“My mom was still alive at the time when Ole Ku came out and she kind of like witnessed me become this Ice Prince… she saw me perform a few times but she passed away like a year after the song came out or so.”
The rapper described Ole Ku as a turning point in his career, calling it a dream come true. The song’s success took him across Africa, performing in Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and beyond. Despite the joy of his breakthrough, he admitted the pain of his mother not being there to witness his full journey.
“Olé, Ku. And yeah, that song, it was like a dream come true. It was unbelievable, bro. I’m going to Kenya, I’m going to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Cameroon.”
Ice Prince also recounted his relentless grind before fame, spending 11 years dedicated to music. He worked multiple roles in the studio, from assisting artists to managing bookings, proving his commitment long before stardom.
“I was literally helping out in the studio. At some point, I was a studio manager. I was the guy that people used to come book the sessions through.”
Despite the hardships, the rapper remains grateful for his journey, crediting his success to perseverance and faith. His story serves as both an inspiration and a reminder of the personal sacrifices behind fame.
