Nigerian rap legend MI Abaga has opened up about his personal journey and the emotions he felt as he approached 40 without having children. In a heartfelt reflection, the artist revealed how deeply the thought affected him at age 37.
“At 37, it hit me that I was approaching 40 without having a child,” he shared. “Some of my friends who had children at 25 or 26 now have kids that are already 15 or 16 and preparing to enter university.”
He drew a personal comparison, mentioning his younger brother and fellow musician Jesse Jagz, who already has a grown daughter. “My younger brother, Jesse Jagz, has a daughter who’s about to turn 21,” he added.
MI admitted that realizing this made him feel a sharp emotional sting. “It was hurting,” he said. “I felt some pain knowing I didn’t have kids early like others around me.”
However, with maturity and reflection, he recognized that readiness is key. “But then, I thought about it too — I wasn’t ready,” he admitted. “And when you’re not ready, you’re not ready.”
The rapper emphasized that everyone moves at their own pace in life. “Everyone’s timeline is different,” he said, highlighting the importance of embracing one’s own journey without pressure.
MI Abaga’s honest reflection has resonated with many, shedding light on the emotional pressures surrounding adulthood, timelines, and societal expectations.
