In a swift political development, the Plateau State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Nanloong Daniel as the new Speaker following the unexpected resignation of Hon. Gabriel Dewan.
The election took place on Wednesday during an emergency plenary held at the Assembly’s temporary chambers at the Old Government House, Jos. Daniel, who represents Mikang State Constituency and previously served as Majority Leader in the 9th Assembly, was unanimously endorsed by the 24-member legislature.
The proceedings were presided over by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gwotta Ajang, who oversaw the nomination and voting process. The motion for Daniel’s nomination was raised by Hon. Nanbol Listick (Langtang North Central) and seconded by Hon. Abdul Yanga (Mangu North East).
Hon. Dewan, elected on the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), was the sole representative of his party in the Assembly. His decision to step down is being interpreted by political observers as a strategic move aimed at restoring calm and unity within the state’s political landscape.
Daniel’s emergence is expected to bring a new chapter of leadership as the Assembly navigates ongoing governance and legislative responsibilities in Plateau State.
