The Commissioner of Youth and Sports in Plateau State, Hon. Lawandi Datti Attended the ongoing 2023 National Youth Games Zonal, The Elimination for North-Central at the prestigious Rwang Pam township stadium to witness proceedings and to cheer team Plateau in their respective events.
The Honorable Commissioner was received by the North-central Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry for Youth and Sports, Mrs. Bitmang, and the Director of Sports, Prof Ezra Gunen, who took him around the competitions venues.
The Commissioner expressed delight with the athlete’s performance and promised Government support for hard work and achievements.
As the results of day 1 of the competition unfold, Plateau has secured automatic tickets in the female category of Basketball, Handball, and Hockey. This is due to the advantage of only two teams registering for the Sports and in the case of Hockey, only Plateau State presented female team. Nasarawa and Niger won the two slots in male Basketball and Hockey.
In Football, Plateau came from a goal down to defeat Nasarawa 2 -1, to boost her chances of a place in Delta. A draw with Niger in her next match will be enough to seal the ticket.
It was sad news for Plateau who produced the youngest teams in Beach Volleyball, as both the male and female teams narrowly missed the chance for a slot in Delta. The teams came 3rd from groups that have FCT, Niger, and Kogi.
Hostilities will continue tomorrow in Volleyball and Football. It is expected that the Elimination will be concluded tomorrow as well.
