Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has approved a major restructuring of the state’s security architecture with the appointment of a new Coordinator for Operation Rainbow, the redeployment of the current coordinator to the Safe School Programme, and the appointment of a new Special Adviser on Security.

The appointments, announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel N. Jatau, take immediate effect.

According to the statement, retired Brigadier General Nash Yakubu has been appointed Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, Plateau State’s homegrown security outfit.

The government said the retired Army officer had a distinguished 35-year military career, participating in several local and international operations, including the MASSOB and IPOB crises, peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Sudan, as well as counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East.

The Governor also redeployed retired Brigadier General Gakji Shipi Goshwe from Operation Rainbow to serve as Coordinator of the Safe School Programme.

The statement noted that Goshwe, a recipient of several military merit awards, previously served as Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow while also doubling as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security.

Similarly, retired Major General Bala A. Isandu was appointed Special Adviser on Security.

Before his appointment, Isandu served as Senior Special Assistant, Intelligence, to the Minister of Defence and also held the position of Director at the Defence Intelligence Agency, with extensive experience in both local and international military assignments.

The state government said the appointments are aimed at strengthening Plateau’s security architecture, improving the protection of lives and property, and enhancing the safety of educational institutions across the state.

Governor Mutfwang congratulated the appointees and expressed confidence in their wealth of experience, professionalism and dedication to duty. He urged them to deploy their expertise in advancing his administration’s vision of a peaceful, secure and prosperous Plateau State.
