The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has tasked the contractor handling the Rwang Pam Township Stadium remodeling to accelerate work on the project to meet international standards. He emphasized that the state’s goal is to host national and continental matches, including those involving Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The Governor, who spoke during an inspection visit to the stadium in Jos on Friday, expressed dissatisfaction with the current pace of work and charged the contractor to scale up operations and resolve any technical issues without delay.

“This project is crucial in our plan to position Plateau as a hub for top-tier sports in Nigeria. We need this stadium delivered as soon as possible,” he said, adding that the intervention is a stop-gap pending the completion of the larger Zaria Road Stadium.

Governor Mutfwang advised the contractor to increase the number of workers on-site and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to address any challenges.

“You don’t need to wait until things get bad before asking for help. The Ministry is available to support you,” he noted.

He further warned that future inspections would be unannounced, stating, “You were aware I was coming today, and clearly a lot of work went into preparing for this visit. But next time, there will be no announcement.”

The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to seeing the project through, stressing that it represents Plateau’s determination to attract national and international sporting activities.

“By the grace of God, once this stadium is completed, Plateau State will be able to host the Super Eagles. That is our goal. So, please don’t disappoint us,” he urged.

The inspection was conducted alongside the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Sylvanus Dongtoe, and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Ibrahim Ashoms, who were joined by representatives of REFORM Group, the contracting firm handling the project.

Arc. Dongtoe explained that the stadium’s seating capacity is being expanded from 4,500 to over 10,000 and will comply with international specifications. He added that the renovation covers a wide range of improvements, including a new artificial turf, athletic tracks, floodlights, VIP booths, and an electronic scoreboard.

The Rwang Pam Stadium remodeling project is part of Governor Mutfwang’s broader infrastructure renewal initiative aimed at revamping public facilities across the state for economic and recreational development.
