In a surprising yet solemn public announcement, renowned gospel rapper Jeremiah Spokesman Aluwong, known by his stage name Spokesman, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA). The artist, who has been a prominent figure in the gospel music scene, made the decision known through a letter addressed to the ECWA Gospel Church, Kagoro, dated March 17, 2025. This announcement marks the end of his association with the denomination, both as a minister and a member.
Spokesman clarified his decision in a statement released to the public, where he emphasized that this was a well-thought-out move, following extensive consultation with his family, friends, and pastors. “This is not a hasty decision. I have consulted with my family, friends, and pastors. It’s with a pure heart and conscience,” he stated, underlining that his departure from ECWA was done after deep reflection.
In his letter, Spokesman expressed gratitude for his time in the church but stressed that he would no longer be associated with the denomination. Despite this, he reassured his fans and followers that his ministry work for Christ would continue. “I will still offer my God-given gifts, support, and partnership where necessary, it is for Christ’s body, not me,” he said, confirming that he remains committed to serving the Christian community.
The rapper acknowledged the pain his decision might cause some individuals but sought understanding, saying, “To those this will hurt, I am deeply sorry. To those this will please, praise the Lord.” While expressing his intention to move forward, Spokesman was candid about the challenges he may still face. “I know that this might not stop the barrage of attacks and campaigns of calumny and malignity (against me & LightWk), I pray this draws clear lines going forward,” he noted.
Spokesman concluded his statement with a scripture from Galatians 6:17, declaring, “From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.”
This announcement marks a significant shift in Spokesman’s spiritual journey, as he seeks to redefine his ministry outside the ECWA fold. His ministry, Light Walk and Work Mission International (LightWk), remains unaffiliated with ECWA, a point he made explicitly clear.
As the public digests this development, Spokesman’s commitment to his calling remains unwavering, with a clear focus on God’s work beyond denominational boundaries.
