Today, May 6, 2024, Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), underscored the pivotal role young officers play in shaping the future of the Nigerian Army.
Addressing over 500 young officers undergoing conversion exercise at Headquarters 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos, the Plateau State Capital, Major General Abubakar emphasized the necessity for these officers to master basic military skills to confront emerging security challenges.
He highlighted the importance of proficiency in basic military skills, physical fitness, and mental preparedness in tackling the evolving security landscape. The conversion exercise, he explained, is crucial for the career progression of Nigerian Army Officers, particularly those under the Short Service Commission and Direct Short Service Commission aspiring to extend their service beyond specified years.
Major General Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja NAM, for granting 3 Division the opportunity to host this significant event. He voiced confidence in the dedication and capabilities of the young officers undergoing the conversion process, urging them to approach the opportunity with diligence and commitment.
Congratulating the candidates on their participation, the GOC charged them to maintain the highest standards of regimentation, discipline, and integrity throughout the exercise. He cautioned against any form of cheating, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of the process.
Major General Abubakar assured that the candidates had been adequately prepared for the exercise through organized cadre sessions. He encouraged them to leverage the knowledge and experience gained during these sessions. The conversion exercise is slated to last for two weeks.
