A fuel tanker crash at the Polo area of Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday evening has claimed the lives of two people and left 16 others injured.

Eyewitnesses said the tanker lost its brakes shortly after the Plateau State Specialist Hospital Roundabout and rammed into five vehicles along the route.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that a total of 18 people were involved in the accident. Two adult males died on the spot, while the injured victims were rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

FRSC officials, working with the police, army, fire service, and other emergency agencies, quickly cordoned off the area, diverted traffic, and carried out rescue operations. Authorities confirmed there was no fuel spillage, which reduced the risk of fire outbreak.

The petroleum product was later trans-loaded, damaged vehicles were removed, and the road was fully cleared by midnight.

FRSC Commander, Olajide Mogaji, commended the effective inter-agency collaboration and urged road users to remain cautious, report emergencies promptly, and practice defensive driving to prevent future accidents.
