Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Navy, has secured the approval of the House of Representatives for key security and humanitarian interventions in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The approval followed Gagdi’s Motion of Urgent Public Importance addressing the rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and flooding affecting Garga Area and parts of his constituency.
Through the motion, the House resolved to establish a Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Garga to strengthen military presence and improve response to insecurity in the region.
The lawmakers also approved the creation of a Divisional Police Headquarters in Gum and a Civil Defence Divisional Office in Gwamlar to boost community policing and enhance inter-agency coordination.
The motion further directed the deployment of a DSS Special Operations Team to Kanam for intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling organized criminal activities.
The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to provide relief and rehabilitation support to victims of insecurity and natural disasters.
In honour of Mallam Hudu Alhassan Musa, the late Village Head of Shuwaka, who was killed in captivity, the House observed a minute of silence.
In the same week, Hon. Gagdi led debate on the Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, seeking to strengthen asset recovery, protect whistleblowers, and ensure transparent management of recovered assets.
