The Most Reverend Benjamin Kwashi, former Anglican Archbishop of Jos, has expressed gratitude for the leadership of Governor Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, despite ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.
In a recent viral video, Archbishop Kwashi highlighted key achievements and called for unity among all Plateau citizens to prevent a return to the days of religious divides.
“We are very grateful to God for the governance of Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang up to this point,” he said, noting the governor’s calm response to the state’s security crises. “He was greeted in his first Christmas with killings. It doesn’t seem to have stopped. But the way in which he has responded and calmed the nerves of the people of the Plateau is A+.”
Archbishop Kwashi commended Mutfwang’s efforts to foster peace across ethnic and religious groups, emphasizing that the governor is quietly building relationships across party lines and working to ensure progress for the state. He added, “People are no longer afraid to go to their farms… this is A+.”
The Archbishop also addressed false rumors that Governor Mutfwang was attempting to stop Muslim calls to prayer, saying that such narratives are being pushed by individuals from within and outside the state who are trying to reignite past religious tensions. “It is my suspicion that some people… think we still are stuck in that old narrative of religious divides… That day is gone.”
Kwashi made a clarion call for Plateau residents to rise up against detractors seeking to destabilize the state. “Our houses and businesses have been destroyed. That is enough. It will no longer happen… Plateau is a center in northern Nigeria of business, social activities, and tourism. Nobody will take it away from us.”
He concluded with a call for prayers, urging the people of Plateau to support Governor Mutfwang in his efforts for peace and prosperity, warning that those working against the state’s unity “will meet with the judgment of God.”
