The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released 15 former members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, including the former Speaker, Rt Hon Thomas Sule. The release comes days after their arrest over alleged misconduct during their time in office.

The former lawmakers were detained last week for allegedly failing to return government vehicles after being removed from office following a Court of Appeal judgment. Their arrest stirred reactions within political circles in Plateau State.

Sources close to the matter revealed that the EFCC initially imposed tough bail conditions on the detained legislators, raising concerns about fairness in the process. However, all 15 individuals have now met the requirements for their release.

“The EFCC allegedly imposed stringent bail conditions despite the former lawmakers pleading not guilty to the charges,” one source familiar with the case stated.

The EFCC is investigating the lawmakers for alleged financial misappropriation and unlawful retention of official vehicles after their tenure ended. These allegations, if proven, could result in serious legal consequences.

Though they have been granted bail, the case is far from over. The EFCC is expected to continue its probe, with a possible prosecution of the lawmakers in the coming weeks.

The development has added a new dimension to the post-legislative controversies in Plateau State, with political observers watching closely as the case proceeds to trial.
