The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has intensified its enforcement of environmental regulations with the sealing of two restaurants operating at Rhomat Plaza, Rayfield, opposite the Jos Steel Rolling Mills Staff Quarters.
The action followed a court sealing order after the establishments were found to have repeatedly discharged wastewater, food remnants, and other waste materials into public drainage channels despite several warnings from the Agency.
PEPSA said investigations revealed that the affected businesses failed to install appropriate waste management systems and continued practices that threatened environmental sanitation and public health.
The Agency stressed that road drainages are designed solely for the passage of stormwater and should not be used as dumping sites for commercial or household waste.
According to PEPSA, indiscriminate disposal of waste into drainage channels contributes to environmental pollution, blockage of waterways, and increased flooding risks, especially during the rainy season.
The Agency reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining environmental standards across Jos, Bukuru, and other parts of Plateau State.
PEPSA also warned restaurant owners, eateries, and operators of commercial facilities to comply with environmental regulations or face similar sanctions, noting that enforcement activities will be strengthened across the state.
Residents were encouraged to support efforts aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment by reporting environmental violations within their communities.
