Following the ruling of the appeal court ordering a rerun of the Plateau North Senatorial District election, Hon. Chris Hassan, Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a call for calm and asked citizens to follow the law.

Assuring the populace, Chairman Hassan said, “We are undeterred by this development, as we have a history of victories since 1999, and we remain committed to sustaining our successes in the state.” On October 23, 2023, Kefas Sumdi, the PDP State Chairman’s personal assistant on media and protocol, made this remark.

He expressed unflinching confidence in the PDP’s victory in the National/State Assemblies elections, anticipating a strong turnout for his party in the impending run-off.

“Our electoral triumph was obvious and unquestionable. The PDP would win no matter how many times we go back to the polls, he proclaimed.

Hassan stated that additional information will be released to the public in the upcoming days and that the party’s legal staff is carefully reviewing the appellate court’s decision.

In his prayer, the Chairman cited Psalms 34:19, which says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” He reassured his devoted followers that, by the grace of God, this trial would ultimately become a testimony and a cause for thanksgiving.

In light of the appeal court decision, several sources have hypothesised that the PDP cannot and will not take part as a party in the upcoming re-election. insisting that the party was automatically disqualified as a result of the court’s directive that a new election be held no later than 90 days from today, October 22, 2023.
