The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has raised strong concern over what it described as an unlawful and provocative conferment of a traditional title in Bisichi, Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
In a statement issued on March 22, 2026, BYM, under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, said it received credible information that a Hausa community leader in Bisichi, Ibrahim Isa, allegedly conferred the title of “Sardauna of Sabon Gidan Dan Yaya Bisichi” on Alhaji Abdulmudallib Mudi Harde during Juma’at prayers coinciding with Salah celebrations at the Bisichi Central Mosque.
The association described the action as a clear violation of established traditional protocols, stressing that the conferment of titles within Berom land remains the exclusive responsibility of recognized traditional rulers and councils. It noted that no individual or group has the authority to assume such powers outside the laid-down structures.
BYM further stated that the act undermines the authority of the Foron Traditional Council, particularly as the individual involved was reportedly appointed to serve under the existing traditional leadership, making the development a serious breach of trust and responsibility.
The group warned that if such actions are left unchecked, they could create confusion, heighten tension, and threaten the fragile peace within the community. It added that the development raises concerns about a possible attempt to erode long-standing customs and traditional authority in the area.
As part of its demands, BYM called on the Foron Traditional Council to sanction those involved and launch a thorough investigation into the incident. It also urged security agencies to intervene promptly to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
The association further demanded an immediate reversal of the title conferment and a formal public apology from those responsible. It also called for a peace undertaking to ensure such actions are not repeated.
Reiterating its commitment to peaceful coexistence, unity, and respect for traditional institutions, BYM emphasized that any attempt to undermine established authority would be firmly resisted, adding that it will continue to monitor developments closely and take lawful steps to protect the integrity of Berom land.
