The Plateau Bloggers and Online Media Association (PLABOMA) has collaborated with the Plateau State Micro Finance Development Agency (PLASMIDA) to organize a two-day workshop aimed at enhancing ethical blogging practices and digital media strategies. The event, which commenced with enthusiasm, brought together bloggers and media professionals focused on sustainable journalism.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Matthew Tegha, Chairman of PLABOMA, emphasized the critical role of digital media in today’s fast-paced world.

“We are not just storytellers; we are influencers, educators, and agents of change. This workshop is a step towards responsible media practice, ensuring truth, accuracy, and fairness in our reporting. The digital space is powerful, and we must wield that power ethically to impact society positively.”

Tegha appreciated PLASMIDA’s support, stressing that the workshop’s objectives include reinforcing ethical journalism, exploring impactful digital media strategies, and incorporating entrepreneurship in content creation for sustainability.

“This event is not just about discussions; it’s about action. Let us use this platform to network, collaborate, and chart a new course for responsible and impactful digital media practice in Plateau State and beyond.”

Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, Director-General of PLASMIDA, underscored the importance of equipping bloggers with entrepreneurial, financial literacy, and digital skills.

“Bloggers are more than content creators; they are catalysts for economic growth. Through digital platforms, they can amplify business opportunities, drive SME development, and contribute significantly to Plateau State’s economy.”

He acknowledged Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s commitment to MSME development through initiatives like the MSME Development Fund, which provides access to finance and training for small businesses.

“The media has a vital role in shaping public perception. Ethical and balanced reporting is crucial in promoting trust, countering misinformation, and fostering transparency. A well-informed society is an empowered one, and bloggers must continue to be at the forefront of this transformation.”

Mrs. Anna Paul-Gindiri, representing Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Plateau State Governor, urged bloggers to promote the state’s economic potential.

“Let your story angles highlight the Governor’s efforts in security, economic development, and creating a business-friendly environment. Changing the narrative is crucial—bloggers should not be swayed by small bribes but remain professional.”

Major S.N Zhakom, representing Maj. Gen. EF Oyinlola of Operation SAFE HAVEN, commended PLABOMA for fostering responsible reporting.

“Bloggers are critical stakeholders whose content shapes socio-economic activities. Misinformation can escalate crises, so always verify facts before publishing. Once misinformation spreads, damage control becomes difficult.”

He highlighted Plateau’s potential in tourism and filmmaking, warning that negative narratives could deter investors.

Da Yakubu Taddy, Trustee of PLABOMA, emphasized bloggers’ influence in shaping public perception.

“Misinformation spreads quickly and can harm Plateau State’s image. Let us prioritize professionalism, responsible reporting, and collaboration with key stakeholders to foster progress and stability.”

Mr. Polycarp Auta, Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel, praised bloggers for their role in shaping journalism in Plateau State.

“Digital platforms have democratized information dissemination, and bloggers have a responsibility to uphold ethical standards. Accuracy and verification are the foundations of trust in online media.”

Mr. Musa Pam, representing NUJ Chairman Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, commended bloggers for upholding high standards.

“You don’t just get an Android phone and start sending out any information. Ethical blogging is about responsibility, and PLABOMA has set an example for professionalism in the state.”

Prince Daniel John Bok, Acting Chairman of the Plateau Publishers Association, applauded PLABOMA’s innovative approach.

“This initiative challenges the media industry to expand its horizons. Digital platforms are not just for publishing stories but also for driving economic and professional growth.”

The workshop featured a series of insightful lectures and discussions facilitated by seasoned professionals in media, business, and finance. Participants had the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions that provided practical knowledge and skills relevant to their field.
