The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Barr. John Kyohroh Christopher, has marked his first anniversary in office with a press conference highlighting major developmental achievements recorded under his administration.

Addressing journalists at the council secretariat on Friday, the chairman expressed gratitude to God and the people of Jos North for their support, describing the milestone as a moment of reflection and thanksgiving.

“This milestone is a moment of reflection and thanksgiving — a time to appreciate how far we have come, the progress we have made, and the collective resolve that has kept us united in our pursuit of development, peace, and prosperity,” he stated.

Barr. Kyohroh appreciated Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his mentorship and for inspiring youth-led governance through the “Time is Now” vision that continues to shape his leadership approach.

“From the outset, our administration made infrastructure a top priority — because no society can progress without solid physical and social amenities,” he said.

According to the chairman, key projects executed include the construction of the Rishari Buturah Smart Neighbourhood Market at Angwan Rukuba, a Police Outpost at Dong, remodeling of the Jos North Legislative Chamber, establishment of a modern ICT Centre, and the Kabong Road surfacing project. Official vehicles were also procured to boost efficiency.

In the health sector, he said six primary healthcare centres across six wards were revitalized in partnership with BPHCDA and the World Bank, with one upgraded to a referral centre, while four more are undergoing renovation through the SDGs initiative.

“Through our collaborations with BPHCDA and the World Bank Impact Project, six primary healthcare centers across six wards have been revitalized, with one upgraded to a referral centre,” he said.

Barr. Kyohroh also noted that education received significant attention as his administration collaborated with SUBEB to construct new classrooms in five schools, renovate eleven others, and drill boreholes in two. Seven additional schools are being renovated directly by the local council.

“All of these efforts are to ensure that our children who are the leaders of tomorrow have a safe environment conducive for learning,” he emphasized.

In the area of water supply, over 40 boreholes were rehabilitated across 20 wards, with an additional 150 restored through collaboration with TASTE.

“This is a proactive measure to combating the perennial water scarcity that has always bedeviled our people during the dry season,” he explained.

He said the council has maintained its WASH programme through monthly sanitation exercises, timely payment of sweepers, and efforts to keep the environment clean and healthy.

To boost agriculture, over ten truckloads of fertilizers were distributed at subsidized rates to local farmers, a move that has reduced production costs and encouraged food security.

The chairman also highlighted social welfare programmes such as food distribution during festive periods, sponsorship of intending pilgrims, payment of medical and school fees for indigent residents, and emergency interventions for disaster victims.

“Our Annual Unity Christmas Carol has become a symbol of interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence among the diverse communities of Jos North,” he said.

He further disclosed that the council established a Joint Non-Conventional Security Group to assist conventional agencies in tackling criminal activities, including the Sarasuka menace, while providing logistical support to enhance local peace and security.

Barr. Kyohroh appreciated the PDP leadership, traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, council staff, and the people of Jos North for their cooperation and support throughout his administration’s first year.

“Together, we have proven that effective governance begins at the grassroots, and that progress is possible when the people and leadership work in harmony,” he declared.

Reaffirming his commitment to unity, peace, and development, the chairman pledged to sustain the momentum, adding that the journey ahead promises even greater transformation for Jos North Local Government Area.
