The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on Monday, paid a crucial visit to Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, bringing a strong message of hope, action, and military resolve.
This high-level visit follows a wave of coordinated violent attacks that have devastated several communities in the area, leaving behind destruction, trauma, and displacement.
To address the crisis head-on, General Oluyede led a strategic stakeholder engagement aimed at restoring peace and reinforcing the military’s presence in the troubled region.
The engagement, held on April 7 in Bokkos, gathered key voices—military commanders, traditional rulers, religious figures, youth and women representatives, and local government officials.
Together, these stakeholders confronted the grim aftermath of the attacks—numerous casualties, widespread destruction of homes and properties, and the forced displacement of innocent residents.
Speaking at the meeting, General Oluyede said, “The Nigerian Army is deeply concerned about the security situation here. We are not just here to talk. We are here to act.”
He assured the people of Bokkos that the military will take all necessary steps to defend their communities and restore lasting peace across the affected villages.
“We recognize the pain your communities are going through,” the Army Chief added. “And we will intensify operations to ensure peace returns and is sustained.”
The dialogue also offered an opportunity for local leaders to raise pressing concerns and recommend collaborative solutions that could prevent future occurrences.
Traditional rulers stressed the importance of community-based intelligence, trust-building, and consistent security engagement across all flashpoints.
Youth and women representatives echoed the call for justice and urged the military to maintain a visible presence, while also supporting displaced residents as they rebuild their lives.
As Bokkos mourns and rebuilds, the visit by General Oluyede marks a decisive moment—signaling a firm military commitment to end the bloodshed and restore security across the region.
