The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has donated the sum of ₦50 million to market women in Plateau State.
The donation was made during a breakfast meeting with the women held in Jos on Wednesday. The gesture came as part of the Renewed Hope for GenerationNext Empowerment Program aimed at improving the livelihoods of displaced women traders.
Prof. Yilwatda, who also serves as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, said the initiative was designed to support women affected by economic hardship and to promote financial independence through collective empowerment.
At the event held at Millennial International Event Centre, Jos, ₦20 million was disbursed as direct cash grants to support women traders, while ₦30 million was provided to cooperatives to boost collective growth and long-term resilience.
He took time to recount his childhood experience and the challenges he faced while growing up, stressing the importance of empowering hardworking women who sustain local markets and communities.
In his words, “Out of the total amount, ₦20 million will be disbursed as direct support to the women, while ₦30 million will be used to open a cooperative for them as market women.”
Prof. Yilwatda reaffirmed his commitment to restoring livelihoods, reducing poverty, and empowering women and youth across Plateau State. “The APC-led Federal Government under President Tinubu is determined to better the lives of citizens,” he stated.
Mama Mary, who received the ₦50 million cheque on behalf of the market women, expressed deep gratitude to the APC Chairman for the gesture.
She described the donation as timely and life-changing, saying it would help many women recover from economic challenges and strengthen their businesses.
The women, filled with excitement, thanked Prof. Yilwatda for his compassion and pledged to make good use of the funds to improve their livelihoods.
Beneficiaries celebrated what they described as a symbol of hope and renewed opportunity in Plateau State.
