Despite the Super Eagles’ defeat to the Elephants, Total Energies honored 30-year-old William Ekong, the captain of the Nigerian national team and center back for Super League Greece side PAOK.
In addition to receiving recognition for being the highest-scoring defender in AFCON history, he was also given an award following the game. With five goals, he overcame Steven Keshi, who previously held the title with four goals in his portfolio.
