School Building Collapse: GTYI Extends Condolences To Families Of Victims, Calls For Urgent Safety Reforms

The Get Them Young Initiatives (GTYI) has expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the families affected by the tragic building collapse at Saint Academy in Jos on July 12th, 2024.

In a heartfelt message, Miss Nafisa Abdulazeez, the Executive Director of GTYI, conveyed the organization’s solidarity with the bereaved families and those injured in the devastating incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the secondary school students who lost their lives and those who were injured in this devastating incident. We pray for strength and healing for those recovering from injuries and for comfort and solace for those mourning the loss of their loved ones,” Abdulazeez stated.

As an organization dedicated to the welfare of young people, GTYI has called on authorities to provide comprehensive support to the affected families without delay. Emphasizing the need for immediate medical care and ongoing psychological support, Abdulazeez highlighted the crucial role of prompt and sustained assistance in helping the victims cope with the tragedy.

GTYI commended emergency services like NEMA, SEMA, Red Cross, security agencies, healthcare professionals, and citizens for their tireless efforts in aiding victims during this challenging time. Stating that “We commend the tireless efforts of emergency services, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Red Cross, security agencies, healthcare professionals, and all compassionate citizens who have been working relentlessly to assist the victims and their families during this challenging time,” Abdulazeez noted.

“In light of this heartbreaking incident, GTYI emphasizes the urgent need to enforce strict safety standards in the construction and maintenance of public buildings, particularly schools. Implementing robust safety reforms is essential to prevent such tragedies from recurring and to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and citizens,” Abdulazeez emphasized.

The entire community of Jos, Plateau State, is urged to stand united in support of the affected families. “Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy, and we extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected.
