In a tragic incident that has plunged the community into mourning, a two-storey building collapsed at Saint Academy Busa Buji Jos North Area of Plateau State on the 12th of July 2024, resulting in the deaths of 22 students and injuries to 132 others. Dr. (Mrs.) Kachollom Pyam Gang, the Commissioner for Higher Education in Plateau State, has expressed her profound condolences to the bereaved families and the entire school community.

In a heartfelt message, Mrs. Gang stated, “I am deeply saddened by the devastating incident at Saint Academy Busa Buji. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased students, the injured, and everyone affected by this tragedy. Losing so many young lives in such a manner is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need to ensure the safety of our educational environments.”

The Commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to investigating the cause of the collapse and implementing measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. “We will leave no stone unturned in our quest to understand what led to this catastrophe and to ensure that such an incident does not occur again. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our students and educational institutions across the state,” Mrs. Gang assured.

Mrs. Gang also called on the community to come together in support of the affected families and the school. “In times like these, it is crucial for us to stand united and offer our support to those in mourning. I urge everyone to extend their hands and hearts to the grieving families and to provide whatever assistance they may need. Together, we can help them navigate through this sorrowful period,” she concluded.

The entire Plateau State community mourns the loss and pledges to work towards safer educational infrastructure for all.
