A three-day strategic training programme was organised by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Tomruk iHub Multiverse, and DAFUDA in an attempt to counteract the widespread impact of misinformation, deception, and malinformation in Nigeria.
The project sought to equip government representatives, community leaders, media professionals, and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with the knowledge and abilities needed to stop the spread of fake news.
The event, held from April 23rd to April 25th, 2024, in the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Asokoro, brought together a varied range of stakeholders devoted to protecting the country’s peace-building efforts.
The training sessions were led by seasoned resource persons such as Odeyemi Olayiwole, CEO of Inspired to Lead, Lateef Sani from the Centre for Journalism and Innovative Development, Job David Ayuba, CEO of Tomruk iHub Multiverse, Austin Aigbe, Lead Consultant at DebunkITNG, and David Akoji, Director of Special Duties and State Operations at the National Orientation Agency.
Participants were immersed in interactive sessions, practical exercises, and stimulating discussions, fostering a comprehensive and engaging learning experience. With a focus on enhancing critical thinking, media literacy, and fact-checking skills, the program equipped attendees with invaluable tools to discern and combat fake news effectively.
Recognizing the detrimental impact of fake news on security, intelligence, economic stability, and public service, the training underscored the urgent need for concerted action to safeguard national peace and promote economic progress.
By fostering collaboration across sectors and empowering individuals with knowledge and skills, initiatives like this training program serve as vital pillars in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat misinformation and uphold peace and stability.
