The House of Representatives has urged the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, and heads of other security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, deploy personnel to communities affected by herdsmen attacks.
The House called for a joint operation to flush out the criminals and restore normalcy to the communities in the Bassa and Jos North areas of the state.
This followed the adoption of a motion on the development on Wednesday, noting the want in the destruction of lives and properties occasioned by the obnoxious and dastardly acts of armed herdsmen in some communities of the Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area.
Agah stated that Adu and Kkpachudu Villages in Kwall and Miango Districts of Irigwe extraction are highly agrarian communities.
“The affected communities, which are peaceful, innocent, and appreciate peaceful coexistence, experienced the resurgence of an unprovoked attack beginning with the ambush and murder of the late Japheth Thomas, a primary school teacher and a resident of Kpachudu village, on September 27, 2023, on his way back home from a neighboring village”, he said.
According to him, “the armed herdsmen who appeared determined and relentless in their heinous crimes later meted out yet another devastating attack on innocent locals of Adu village on the Ist of October 2023, thereby leaving scores of deaths, including women and children, with several others injured and critically lying in different hospitals in Jos”.
