Major General AE Abubakar, General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army (NA), and the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) met with Fulani and Mangu stakeholders about the missing Ardo Adamu, the Ardo of Panyam, in the Panyam district of the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, today, October 3, 2023.

The Comd OPSH/GOC emphasised during the meeting that improving security within the OPSH Joint Operation Area required the involvement of the stakeholders. He referred to the incident as regrettable and cautioned the populace against using the law against themselves as Operation SAFE HAVEN keeps working tirelessly to investigate the circumstances and apprehend all of the culprits.

General Abubakar said that for peace to be accomplished, there must be sincerity of intent. He insisted that if a peaceful community is to be formed, criminality must be jointly denounced.

The commander emphasised the significance of Operation HAKORIN DAMISA IV and noted that the continuing operation has had considerable results in the greater Mangu area and throughout Plateau State.

The Comd OPSH/GOC urged authorities at all levels to cooperate closely with law enforcement in purging localities of criminal groups and outside forces determined to wreak devastation on the State. In order to sustain peace on the Plateau, he informed the stakeholders that OPSH will continue to be equitable and fair to everyone.

Brigadier General DD Shippi (Rtd), the special adviser to the governor of Plateau State on security, stated in his remarks that the circle of violence in the general region of Mangu must end for the peace process to be successful. He reaffirmed that the Plateau State administration was dedicated to a peaceful society and would, as a result, consider any advice from stakeholders useful to the government’s mission of policing the State effectively.

The meeting’s key participants all concurred that grassroots participation is necessary to address the State’s security concerns. They also concurred that while leaders continue to preach peace to their followers and in the communities they represent, a large amount of the issues can be overcome by reorienting the people.

Honourable Markus Artu, Chairman of the Mangu LGA Transition Committee, Brigadier General DD Shippi, Special Advisor to the Governor of Plateau State on Security, Honourable Bala Fwangje, Chief Whip, and Honourable Member of Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly are some of the dignitaries in attendance.
