The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said protecting lives and property must remain a fundamental responsibility of government, pledging that the party would prioritise insecurity, poverty, illiteracy and unemployment if elected in 2027.

Kwankwaso spoke on Friday at the Middle Belt Confidence-Building Town Hall meeting held at Crispan Hotel, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State, where he represented the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

He explained that Obi was unable to attend for reasons beyond his control, assuring supporters that arrangements would be made for the presidential candidate to visit Plateau State at a later date.

Conveying Obi’s message, Kwankwaso said their joint ticket was committed to promoting national unity and bridging divisions across religious, ethnic and regional lines.

He condemned persistent killings linked to banditry, Boko Haram insurgency and communal conflicts, insisting that Nigerians deserved protection regardless of their backgrounds.

Kwankwaso also called for accountability among public office holders, saying government must take responsibility for safeguarding citizens and creating conditions for them to live without fear.

On the economy, he lamented the decline of factories and industries that previously provided employment, stressing the need to create an environment where businesses could thrive and young people could find decent jobs.

He described education as a key tool for tackling poverty and insecurity, citing efforts to expand access to primary and secondary education during his administration in Kano State.

Kwankwaso urged NDC supporters in Plateau to mobilise voters and protect their votes during the 2027 elections, while encouraging peaceful and lawful participation in the democratic process.
