The Plateau Progressive Ambassadors (PPA) has warned political stakeholders against any attempt to influence the choice of Plateau State’s next governor through alleged political arrangements, insisting that the people must determine their leadership in the 2027 general elections.

The group also called for unity among political leaders in the state, urging stakeholders to prioritise security, development and the protection of communities against land grabbing rather than engage in political divisions.

In a press statement dated October 21, 2026, the PPA alleged that some elders and political stakeholders were working with external political interests to secure the emergence of Chief Kefas Ropshik Kefiano as governor in 2027.

The group, however, did not provide details of the alleged meetings or evidence to substantiate the claims.

According to the PPA, any attempt to determine Plateau’s political future through external influence would undermine the democratic rights of the people and could further deepen existing divisions.

“We state categorically that no individual, no matter how highly placed, can come from outside to install a Governor for Plateau people. Plateau State is not like other States,” the group declared.

The PPA maintained that candidates seeking elective offices should present their manifestos and development plans to the electorate rather than rely on political alliances or attacks against their opponents.

The group also expressed concern over what it described as unwarranted attacks against former Governor and Senator, Da Jonah David Jang, urging political actors to respect his contributions to the development of the state.

“He deserves respect as an elder statesman who has served this state meritoriously,” the statement added.

The PPA called on political stakeholders to support Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration in addressing insecurity and land grabbing, which it identified as major challenges confronting Plateau.

It further urged those dissatisfied with the governor’s performance to pursue constructive engagement and offer suggestions for improving governance instead of engaging in what it described as a campaign of calumny on social media.

“Rather than engage in a campaign of calumny on social media, we urge anyone who feels Governor Mutfwang is not doing well to seek constructive engagement and meet with him directly to offer advice,” the group said.

The group also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain his support for the Plateau State Government’s efforts to address insecurity, dismissing claims that Mutfwang was incapable of managing the state’s challenges.

While commending Mutfwang’s efforts to improve security and governance, the PPA urged the governor to maintain an open-door approach and work towards building a more united state.

The statement concluded with a call on Plateau residents and political leaders to put aside their differences and work collectively for the peace, unity and progress of the state.
