The governorship campaign of Alfred Dapal Damiyal, popularly known as ADD, has declared that it will not be distracted by the controversy surrounding the New Democratic Congress, NDC, governorship ticket in Plateau State, insisting that the dispute must be resolved through the courts.
The campaign’s position comes amid controversy over a publication presenting a suspended party member as the NDC governorship candidate, with the ADD camp urging supporters to remain calm pending the determination of the matter by a court of competent jurisdiction.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Media and Communications Team, the campaign expressed confidence in the judicial process and cautioned against political declarations capable of creating uncertainty among party members.
It said the ongoing legal proceedings remained the appropriate channel for resolving the dispute, urging supporters not to allow media reports to influence their conduct or weaken their commitment to the political movement.
“Media reports and political declarations do not replace the judicial process, and we remain committed to pursuing this matter through lawful and constitutional means,” the statement said.
The campaign also raised concerns about what it described as attempts by certain individuals and interests to infiltrate the party, create confusion and undermine its members’ collective aspirations.
It consequently urged party faithful to exercise restraint, avoid spreading unverified information and refrain from confrontations that could further aggravate tensions within the party.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the ticket, the ADD campaign maintained that its political activities would continue, including grassroots mobilisation, engagement with residents and the promotion of its development agenda for Plateau State.
“Our message is clear: we are not distracted, we are not discouraged, and we are not abandoning the course we have chosen,” the statement declared.
The campaign further appealed to supporters to demonstrate discipline, patience and unity, describing these values as essential to sustaining the movement’s ambition of building a safer, more united and prosperous Plateau.
It reaffirmed its faith in the judiciary, maintaining that the court’s determination of the dispute would be crucial to resolving the controversy surrounding the party’s governorship candidacy.
