The Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has urged its staff to embrace innovation and develop new ideas to sustain the organisation’s operations amid the gradual decline in traditional mail services.

The State Director, Mrs Peace Ezema, made the call during the commemoration of the 2026 World Post Day in Plateau State, which featured a road walk and the presentation of awards to two students of St. Louis College.

The celebration, held under the theme, “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities,” was aimed at raising public awareness about the evolving role of postal services in connecting people, communities and nations.

Reading the message of the Director-General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), Ezema highlighted the global importance of postal networks in linking governments, businesses and individuals, while providing access to essential services and economic opportunities.

The message also stressed the need for postal administrations to adapt to changing societal demands through digital transformation, e-commerce and improved service delivery without compromising reliability and accessibility.

Speaking on the future of the organisation, Ezema said NIPOST must diversify its services and explore emerging opportunities to remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.

She said, “The traditional mails are really dwindling. So, we have to bring other things, like financial services, like e-commerce.”

Ezema urged staff to embrace innovative ideas that would strengthen the organisation and ensure its sustainability, expressing hope that NIPOST would continue to grow and deliver effective services to Nigerians.
