The City Boy Movement has inaugurated its Plateau State chapter as part of its mobilisation efforts for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration, held at the Crispan Event Centre, Jos, brought together leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, political stakeholders, candidates and members of various support groups, with the movement setting a target of one million votes for Tinubu in the state.
Speaking at the event, National Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Shoga, charged members of the newly inaugurated chapter to take the movement’s message to communities across Plateau State.
Shoga said the responsibility of movement leaders went beyond holding positions, stressing the need to engage women, schools, institutions and communities at the grassroots on the policies and achievements of the Tinubu administration.
“Putting you in office is not for you to decorate the office or become a big man. It is for you to go to the grassroots. We must go to local government areas, wards and communities and speak to women, schools and institutions because they need to understand what the President has done,” he said.
He also urged members to work closely with the APC, which he described as the political vehicle through which their activities would be pursued, while charging them to remain active representatives of the movement in their communities.
Also speaking, the State Director of the movement, Hon. Prince David Daser, said the organisation had evolved into a structured grassroots movement with members and coordinators across polling units, wards and local government areas in Plateau State.
Daser said the movement was activating its grassroots structure under “Operation Rock Solid”, with members expected to organise, engage and mobilise through their families, communities, religious groups and other social networks.
“Every member of the City Boy Movement here present, and even those that are not here, are all going to mobilise at least 32 persons across the state because we are committed to producing one million votes for Mr. President,” he said.
He said the movement would also use its structure to inform Plateau residents about what he described as projects and appointments secured by the President, urging members to register, organise, engage, communicate and mobilise responsibly.
The newly inaugurated state executives subsequently took the oath of office administered by Barr. Olusegun Ogedengbe, formally assuming their respective responsibilities in the Plateau chapter of the movement.
Commending the initiative, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang urged the movement to remain open and inclusive while working with other APC structures to mobilise support across the state.
“It is a movement, not an organisation. A movement is a flowing river; it is not stagnant water. Therefore, you must continue to carry others along in the flow. Make sure that it does not become an exclusive club for a few people. It must be open to all,” he said.
Mutfwang charged the newly inaugurated members to take their mobilisation beyond the inauguration venue and engage communities, stressing the importance of collaboration and unity among the various support groups.
Former Governor of Plateau State and former Director-General of the Tinubu Campaign Council in 2023, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, also commended the movement for mobilising young people in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Lalong urged the youth to sustain the momentum across the state, saying the one-million-vote target should be treated as a starting point for greater mobilisation.
“If you promise us one million, we the elders will bless you and say that you are not going to go below one million, but you will get 1. something million. That is our own blessing today,” Lalong said.
