Ahead of the 2027 Plateau State governorship election, the Action Democratic Party, ADP, has unveiled Rwas Badung Gabriel Sunday as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Dr. Sani Dawop.
The party said the Dawop-Gabriel ticket would take its campaign to voters with a proposed agenda focused on security, youth opportunities, agriculture, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, education and healthcare.
Accepting the nomination, Gabriel said the ticket would offer voters what he described as a new approach centred on competence, integrity and practical solutions to challenges confronting the state.
“Today, I accept this nomination with a deep sense of responsibility and a firm commitment to serve the people of Plateau State faithfully, honestly, and with integrity,” he said.
He said the proposed programme would prioritise peace and security, youth opportunities, support for farmers, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, education and healthcare.
According to Gabriel, the ticket would seek to expand opportunities for young people, strengthen support for agriculture and businesses, and improve access to essential services across Plateau.
He also said the choice of candidates should not be determined by religion or ethnicity, but by their records, present commitments and what they can offer the people.
“Good leaders are not measured based on religion or ethnic background or sentiment, but by the quality of what is presented before the people; what you have done in the past, what you are doing now and what you can do for the people in the future,” he said.
Gabriel further called for greater participation of young people and women in governance, saying their contributions would be important to the development of the state.
“To the youths, I say: your future matters. To our women: your voices and contributions are invaluable. To our elders: your wisdom will continue to guide us,” he said.
He said Plateau’s ethnic and religious diversity should be harnessed to promote cooperation, peace and development across communities.
The deputy governorship candidate also urged ADP members to remain committed to the campaign, calling for an issues-based contest conducted with respect and dignity.
An architect, entrepreneur and community leader, Gabriel said he would bring his experience in youth and community development to the Dawop-Gabriel ticket.
The ADP is expected to take its proposed agenda to voters across the state as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
