Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned filmmaker and Nollywood producer, Dimbo Atiya, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Plateau State, the nation’s creative industry and Nigeria.
In a condolence message on Friday, the governor described the late filmmaker as “a towering figure in Nigeria’s film industry, a steadfast friend of Plateau State, and an exceptional creative talent whose contributions significantly advanced the growth and development of the nation’s entertainment industry.”
Mutfwang said Atiya’s remarkable career was defined by excellence, innovation and an unwavering commitment to storytelling that inspired many within and outside the creative sector.
He noted that the late filmmaker, who won the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series, distinguished himself as one of the country’s finest creative minds.
The governor also paid tribute to Atiya’s passion for mentoring young talents, describing him as “a reservoir of knowledge, creativity, and inspiration who nurtured and mentored countless young talents.”
According to him, many of those mentored by the late filmmaker have gone on to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s film industry.
Mutfwang said Atiya’s death was particularly painful for Plateau State because of his longstanding relationship with the state and his immense contributions to its creative and cultural development.
He further described the deceased as a man of integrity, professionalism and visionary leadership whose commitment to youth development earned him widespread admiration.
“His wealth of experience, sound counsel, and passion for discovering and nurturing emerging talents will be sorely missed by the creative community and the nation at large,” the governor said.
On behalf of his family, the Plateau State Government and the people of the state, Mutfwang extended his condolences to the Atiya family, the Nigerian film industry, friends and associates over the painful loss.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the late filmmaker eternal rest and give his family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
