The member representing Pankshin, Kanke and Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, has announced that the Senate has concurred with the bill seeking the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Dengi, in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He also disclosed that the bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Navy Basic and Technical Institute in Kanke Local Government Area has progressed to the third reading.
Gagdi, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, described both developments as major milestones in expanding access to education, creating jobs and accelerating development across the constituency.
In a statement on Tuesday, the lawmaker recalled that the former Federal College of Education, Pankshin, was upgraded to the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, through a bill he sponsored, which was signed into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He noted that President Bola Tinubu later approved the take-off of the university, which now has a substantive Vice-Chancellor and has commenced academic activities.
According to Gagdi, the proposed Federal College of Education, Dengi, is intended to replace the former college following its upgrade to a university.
“The Senate has now concurred with the House of Representatives on the bill establishing the Federal College of Education, Dengi. What now remains is the gracious assent of Mr. President before this landmark legislation becomes law,” he said.
He described the Senate’s concurrence as another significant achievement for the constituency and a testament to purposeful representation.
Gagdi further revealed that the bill establishing the Nigerian Navy Basic and Technical Institute in Kanke has also made significant legislative progress.
“The proposed institute will provide basic and technical education, strengthen manpower development for the Nigerian Navy, create employment opportunities for our youths and enhance security through the presence of a military institution in the constituency,” he stated.
The federal lawmaker said the institutions would improve educational opportunities, stimulate economic growth and open more employment prospects for residents.
“These achievements are clear evidence that effective representation delivers tangible results. I remain committed to attracting more projects and institutions that will improve the lives of our people,” Gagdi added.
