The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials to the Plateau State Government for distribution to victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos North Local Government Area.
The intervention is aimed at providing immediate support to affected persons, helping them recover from the tragic incident and gradually return to their normal lives.
Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Adebiyi B. Razaq, made the presentation at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
She explained that the relief materials were approved by the Federal Government as part of efforts to assist communities affected by the recent violence in Angwan Rukuba.
According to her, the NEMA Operations Office in Jos conducted a detailed assessment to determine the level of damage and the specific needs of the survivors before the intervention was approved.
Items provided include food supplies such as rice, beans, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, and iodized salt, as well as non-food items like detergents, dignity kits, and fabrics.
Other materials include mattresses and medical supplies such as creams and essential drugs to support the treatment of injured victims.
Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang assured that the relief materials would be distributed promptly and transparently to those affected.
The governor appreciated NEMA for the timely intervention and commended the agency’s continued collaboration with the Plateau State Government.
He noted that although the state regrets the tragic incident, it remains important for all levels of government to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.
“It is the responsibility of government to come to the aid of the vulnerable so they can rebuild their lives,” he said.
Governor Mutfwang further assured that all items would be judiciously managed and delivered to the rightful beneficiaries.
The intervention is expected to bring relief to many families affected by the attack as efforts continue to restore normalcy in the area.
