Plateau State will join the rest of the world on Saturday, 27th September, in marking World Tourism Day 2025 at Rayfield Resort, Jos. The event will celebrate the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” and highlight the state’s cultural heritage, natural beauty, and commitment to eco-friendly practices.

The celebration will feature a cultural carnival float, guided tours of tourist attractions, a clean-up at the Jos Wildlife Park, and cultural performances. Organizers say the aim is to showcase Plateau’s rich tourism potential while stressing the importance of sustainability.

Hon. Chuwang Pwajok, General Manager of Plateau Tourism Corporation, said the state is fully prepared for the commemoration. According to him, publicity has been intensified through radio and social media to inform the public about the activities.

“As a state known for its tourism, we are trying to ensure the public is significantly aware that activities are taking place,” Pwajok explained.

He added that the day will begin with a sanitation exercise, followed by a guided tour around tourist sites in Jos. This, he noted, will allow participants to experience Plateau’s attractions firsthand.

Pwajok further revealed that the main ceremony will hold at Rayfield Resort, bringing together government officials, private stakeholders, and the general public. He said the gathering will reflect on Plateau’s tourism journey and provide solutions to challenges facing the sector.

Victor Damar, the Assistant General Manager of Jos Wildlife Park, said the ongoing clean-up is part of activities leading up to the celebration. He explained that the exercise aligns with the theme of transformation.

He noted that clearing grass and removing trash is aimed at making the park clean and attractive for tourists. According to him, a tidy environment is not only vital for visitors’ comfort but also important for their health and overall experience.

Miss Stephanie Veirat Joseph, the Face of Tourism Plateau State 2024, described the upcoming event as a thrilling experience. She disclosed that tours of selected sites in Jos have been arranged, with stakeholders from various organizations invited to participate.

She commended the Plateau State Government for prioritizing tourism development. According to her, Governor Mutfwang has consistently shown passion for the sector and supports initiatives that project Plateau as a tourism destination.

Residents of Jos have also applauded the government’s efforts. Hon. Alfred Shailong of Jos North described tourism as Africa’s heritage that must be preserved for future generations. He praised the governor for promoting Plateau as a center of peace and tourism.

Similarly, Alice Francis Nantap, a resident of Hwolshe in Jos North, praised Governor Mutfwang for his efforts in restoring tourism, noting visible progress in reviving sites like Hill Station and Plateau Hotel. She urged other stakeholders to support his vision of building a better Plateau through tourism.

Asebe Monde, a trader at Kungiya Market in Bukuru, Jos South LGA, said the World Tourism Day program is exciting because it helps people see and learn about their heritage. She praised the Plateau State Government but encouraged them to do more so that children can also grow up knowing the value of tourism.
