The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 22 suspects in connection with the deadly ambush on travellers in Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area.

According to the police, the attack occurred on June 20, 2025, at about 9:47 p.m., when a commercial bus carrying passengers from Zaria, Kaduna State, was attacked by an angry mob while en route to Qua’an-Pan LGA for a wedding.

“Upon receipt of this intelligence, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer Mangu division to mobilize men and swiftly race to the scene,” said DSP Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the command.

“On reaching the scene, our men in collaboration with other security agencies quickly dispersed the angry mob and rescued twenty-one (21) victims and rushed them to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment,” he added.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the passengers lost their way and mistakenly entered Mangun village, where they were attacked and their vehicle set ablaze.

“As a result of this unfortunate incident, some of the passengers lost their lives, while 7 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries. In a display of courage, our men…were able to rescue fourteen (14) persons unhurt,” the statement read.

At about 7:00 a.m. the next day, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, visited the scene with heads of other security agencies to assess the situation and restore order.

“Consequently, twenty-two (22) suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident,” the statement confirmed.

The CP has deployed officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Tactical Teams to support the investigation and apprehend more suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command wishes to assure the good and peace-loving people of Plateau State, that the Command is doing everything within the ambits of its constitutional power to ensure that all those involved in this inhuman act be brought to justice,” DSP Alabo stated, urging citizens, especially youths, not to take laws into their own hands.
