Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN have intensified operations to flush out criminal elements from Jos Metropolis, leading to the arrest of several armed robbery suspects and the recovery of weapons.

According to a statement issued by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, the arrests were made during patrols conducted by troops of 3 Division in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

On the night of 24 May 2025, troops patrolling around the Naraguta area apprehended two suspected armed robbers. “The suspects were arrested in possession of one pistol,” Zhakom stated.

He added that the arrested individuals, along with the recovered weapon, are currently in the custody of troops for further investigation.

In a separate operation carried out in the early hours of 25 May 2025, another armed robbery suspect was arrested near Crest Hotel at Corner Shagari in Jos North.

Zhakom disclosed that the suspect was found with a pistol and five rounds of 9 mm ammunition. “Preliminary interrogation of the suspect led to the arrest of his cohort at Massalachin Idi, Ali Kazaure Area in Jos North LGA,” he said.

During the raid on the hideout, troops recovered an additional pistol loaded with five rounds of 9 mm ammunition, further disrupting the operations of the criminal group.

“The arrested suspects are making useful confessions in custody to aid troops conduct follow-up operations to arrest other members of the criminal syndicate,” the statement revealed.

The military authorities believe these arrests are a significant step toward restoring safety and public confidence in the affected areas.

Major Zhakom emphasized the commitment of security forces in the area, saying, “Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN will leave nothing to chance in protecting city centers across its Joint Operations Area.”

He reiterated that the same level of attention given to the hinterlands is being extended to urban centers, especially with the rising concern over criminal activities.

Residents have been encouraged to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to ensure continued success in ridding the metropolis of crime.
