The Plateau State Government has initiated legal action against Yusuf Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over claims that he unlawfully re-awarded a road construction contract that was originally granted by the state government.

The case, listed as PLD/P5/2025, was filed by the state’s Attorney-General, P.A. Daffi, at the Plateau State High Court in Pankshin. The government is seeking to halt Gagdi’s ongoing work on the 33km Gunji-Shiwer-Dokpai Road, which includes a spur to Tiplik. This project, according to the state government, was taken up by Gagdi as one of his constituency projects.

The plaintiffs argue that the contract, first awarded in 2008 to Hajaig Nigeria Limited, is still legally in effect, and they assert that Gagdi has no constitutional or legal right to re-award it.

In their lawsuit, the Plateau State Government is asking the court to declare the original contract valid and to issue a permanent injunction preventing Gagdi and Orion Acres Ltd, the construction company he hired, from continuing the project.

The state is also seeking N100 million in general damages, claiming that Gagdi’s actions unlawfully interfered with its contractual rights.

During the court proceedings on Wednesday, the state’s lawyer, P.A. Daffi, requested an interlocutory injunction to stop Gagdi from continuing the road construction. However, Gagdi’s attorney, Johnson Usman (SAN), opposed this, arguing that the defense still had time to respond to both the motion and the originating summons.

Justice Charles Donglong sided with the defendants, granting them extra time to file their responses. The case has been adjourned to February 27 for further hearings on both the interlocutory injunction and the main suit.
