Verified Conversations and Inside Plateau have unveiled plans for a major town hall meeting at Crispan Event Center Jos, tagged #2027Conversation, aimed at strengthening citizen engagement and promoting accountability in governance across Plateau State.
The initiative was announced during a press briefing held in Rayfield, Jos, where the organisers described the platform as a non-partisan effort to deepen democratic participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the briefing, Team Lead of Verified Conversations, Mr. Samson Omale, said the town hall would be held on June 12, 2026, as part of activities marking Democracy Day.
He explained that the platform was conceived to create direct interaction between citizens and public office holders, enabling residents to ask critical questions and demand accountability from leaders.
“We intend to have a town hall on June 12 as part of Democracy Day. We want to deepen the conversation by bringing critical stakeholders together and creating a space where citizens can ask questions, conduct social audits, and get answers from public office holders,” Omale said.
According to him, the initiative extends beyond electoral campaigns and is designed to sustain conversations around governance, transparency, and public service delivery.
“The #2027Conversation is bigger than elections. It is about creating an independent platform where leaders can engage citizens openly, answer tough questions, and demonstrate accountability to the people they serve,” he stated.
Omale disclosed that several radio stations in Jos have partnered with the organisers to ensure wider participation, allowing thousands of residents to follow the discussions through live broadcasts and other media platforms.
He further revealed that future editions of the initiative would assess government performance at different stages of its tenure, providing citizens with opportunities to evaluate promises, policies, and results.
“This is not about politics or political parties. We are talking squarely about governance and accountability. We want citizens to interrogate policies, demand results, and contribute meaningfully to the development of Plateau State,” he added.
Also speaking, Business Manager of Inside Plateau, Munta Phikwallayan, said the partnership with Verified Conversations was aimed at creating an inclusive platform where citizens can freely express their views on governance and development issues affecting Plateau State.
“It is important to bring all stakeholders to the table, create room for discussions, and allow everyone to air their views. Through these conversations, we can collectively identify challenges and chart a path toward meaningful solutions for Plateau State,” she said.
Phikwallayan emphasized the need for citizens to actively participate in shaping discussions that affect their future, noting that the platform would give Plateau people an opportunity to tell their own stories and share their experiences.
“We will listen to what people are saying, hear their concerns and complaints, and use those contributions to move the conversation forward and create pathways for progress and practical solutions,” she added.
