The Plateau State Government has presented the detailed breakdown of its 2026 Annual Budget, with strong emphasis on road infrastructure, food security, water supply, and economic expansion.

Tagged Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2, The presentation was delivered by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Adam’s B. Lekshak, at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat, Jos.

The briefing followed the signing into law of the 2026 Appropriation Bill by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and was attended by members of the press, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders. The exercise was aimed at deepening transparency and helping citizens understand government priorities for the 2026 fiscal year.

The 2026 Plateau State budget has a total size of ₦817,509,699,432.00 (Eight Hundred and Seventeen Billion, Five Hundred and Nine Million, Six Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty-Two Naira only). This budget reflects the government’s commitment to consolidating past achievements while prioritizing roads, food security, water, and economic growth.

It shows an increase of ₦318,058,528,321.37 (Three Hundred and Eighteen Billion, Fifty-Eight Million, Five Hundred and Twenty-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-One Naira, Thirty-Seven Kobo) over the 2025 approved budget, highlighting the administration’s determination to expand developmental interventions and improve the living standards of Plateau State citizens.

Presenting the breakdown, Hon. Lekshak said the budget clearly outlines government programmes and policies as approved for implementation in 2026.

“This breakdown includes information on the state’s programs and policies as outlined in the approved 2026 budget.”

A major highlight of the 2026 budget is massive investment in infrastructure, particularly roads and transportation. The Works and Transport sector received ₦92.71 billion, representing 11.34 percent of the total budget, to fund road construction, rehabilitation, and transport sector reforms across the state.

“To finance a road project and transform the transport sector, the government provided the sum of 92,714,080,570 Naira representing 11.34% in 2026.”

Food security also features prominently in the 2026 fiscal plan. Agriculture and Rural Development was allocated ₦48.01 billion, representing 5.87 percent of the total budget, to strengthen agricultural production and support farmers across Plateau State.

“Agriculture and rural development will transform and guide the state’s food security.”

Water, Sanitation and Energy received one of the highest sectoral allocations, with ₦107.18 billion, representing 13.10 percent of the total budget, earmarked for water-related projects and energy programmes aimed at improving access to clean water and power supply in both urban and rural areas.

“The sum of 107,177,176,456 Naira represented 13.10% was about for all water related projects and programs in the year under review 2026 fiscal year.”

The Lands, Housing and Urban Development sector was allocated ₦29.19 billion, representing 3.57 percent, to address land acquisition challenges, housing delivery, and urban development projects.

Tourism, Culture and Hospitality received ₦4.44 billion, representing 0.54 percent of the budget, while the Information and Publication sector was allocated ₦3.83 billion to enhance public communication and information dissemination.

Women, Youth and Sports Development was allocated ₦11.47 billion, representing 1.4 percent, to promote youth empowerment, sports development, and gender-focused programmes across the state.

The Commerce and Industries sub-sector received ₦1.86 billion to stimulate commercial activities and support industrial growth, while the Finance and Economy sector was allocated ₦53.01 billion to execute economic programmes and meet contractual obligations.

In the area of justice and governance, ₦18.78 billion was allocated to the Law and Justice sector to support courts and justice delivery, while Environment and Mineral Development received ₦15.50 billion to mitigate environmental hazards and address climate-related challenges.

Hon. Lekshak urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies to strictly follow budget implementation guidelines and encouraged civil society organisations to actively monitor projects to ensure accountability and value for money.

“I would like to encourage all ministries, departments and agencies to adhere to the basic principles of budget implementation.”

The Commissioner reaffirmed that the 2026 budget is designed to deliver tangible development outcomes, improve living standards, and sustain Plateau State’s economic growth under the current administration.
