The Vwang Peace and Unity Football Tournament, sponsored by Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Plateau State Governor, concluded in a spectacular fashion on Saturday, with Wunato FA of Turu emerging victorious after defeating Chugwi United 1-0 in the final. The event, which attracted attendees from across Plateau State, celebrated sportsmanship, peace, and community unity.

With ten teams from the four villages in Vwang District competing, the tournament served as a platform to discover young football talents and promote peace within the community.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by Commissioner for Transport Hon. Davou Jatau, praised the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the administration’s vision of grassroots development and sports promotion. The governor also emphasized the ongoing efforts to remodel Rwang Pam Township Stadium to support athletes in the state.

Rt. Hon. Dewan Gabriel, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, who chaired the event, commended the tournament for bringing together youths, traditional and religious leaders to discuss peacebuilding and fight against social vices, particularly drug abuse. He urged government appointees to remain engaged with their communities and sustain grassroots political values.

Dr. Gyang Bere, the tournament’s sponsor, expressed his joy at the successful conclusion of the event, reiterating its purpose of fostering unity, discovering talents, and launching a campaign against social ills. He assured continued support for the young athletes and announced plans to make the tournament an annual event.

Hon. Silas Patrick Dung, Chairman of Jos South LGA, and Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, Chairman of the Plateau State Football Association, applauded the tournament’s impact, urging players to balance sports and education for a bright future.

In addition to awards for the top three teams, all participating teams received cash donations, emphasizing the tournament’s mission of promoting peace, unity, and youth empowerment.
