Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said on Monday that his ministry was working to guarantee that “some cost of collection from recovered cash is given to pay our recovery operations.”

Malami made the remarks while testifying before the House Committee on Justice to defend his ministry’s budget for 2022.

“To date, there remain substantial quantities of illicit money stashed abroad,” he continued, “for which we are working closely with ICPC and EFCC as trustedallies to effect recovery.”

In his opening remarks, the committee’s chairman, Ugoing to Ozurigbo, said that government cannot function in a vacuum and that budget approval is critical to good governance; “as a result, this exercise should be given the due importance that it deserves as we solicit your maximum cooperation and total disclosure of all material facts,” he said.
