It was the north Londoners that opened scoring in the 13th minute through Jan Vertonghen, but a second-half goal from Josip Drmic ensured the game extend beyond regulation period.
Vertonghen gave Spurs the lead after rising above his opponent to head home a superb cross from Giovani Lo Celso from the left flank.

Emiliano Buendia tried restoring parity for the away team just ten minutes before half time but his effort was saved by Michel Vorm – moments after nearly gifting the Canaries an equaliser. Mario Vrancic came close to finding the back of the net in the 37th minute but Eric Dier blocked chance to save his side’s blushes. With two minutes to wrap up the half, Buendia stepped up made an attacking move towards goal but was once again denied the opportunity of recording his name on the scores sheet.

Tottenham nearly doubled their lead in the late minute of the half after through Lucas Moura but Tim Krul justified why he is the team’s number one by simply dusting the shot.
It was Tom Trybull who put the visitors under immense pressure towards the end of the first half after passing to a marked Mario Vrancic in their half – a move that almost cost them another goal.
At the end of the half, Jose Mourinho’s men remain in the driving seat with a goal advantage ahead of the second half.

Both teams resumed hostilities in the second stanza but it was Norwich who created the first chance int he 49th minute after another Buendia’s audacious move was blocked by Spurs stars. At this point, the visitors seem to have gained confidence and were making bold attacking moves against the north Londoners.
With 12 minutes left to play in the normal regulation period, Josip Drmic tapped his side back into the game from close range and benefiting from Vorm’s poor save.
