A strong condemnation of the March 29th attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, Plateau State, has come from Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, who is now urging the government to swiftly identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.

In a statement, Senator Mwadkwon emphasized that mere condemnation of the attack is insufficient and stressed the need for concrete action against the perpetrators. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the Plateau State government, calling on authorities to track down prime suspects who have openly threatened the attack on social media.

“It is unacceptable that such threats were made publicly, and it is imperative that those responsible are held accountable,” Senator Mwadkwon stated. “The government must utilize all available resources to identify and apprehend these individuals, who are not ghosts but real people with identifiable connections.”

The Senator further alleged that the attack was premeditated, pointing to social media posts from individuals who had announced plans for the violence. He criticized security agencies for being reactive rather than proactive, questioning the purpose of a police station in the area if it cannot provide protection.

Senator Mwadkwon also appreciated the Governor’s visit to the community and JUTH, where the injured are receiving treatment, describing it as a welcome move.

He urged the government to investigate and prosecute not only the direct perpetrators but also those who instigated the violence through social media, emphasizing that their arrest could reveal the masterminds behind the attack.

The Plateau State government has yet to comment on the specifics of the investigation, but Senator Mwadtkwon’s statement adds pressure for decisive action against those responsible for the Angwan Rukuba killings.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), assuring the people of Plateau North Senatorial District of purposeful and effective representation if elected senator in 2027.

The assurance was given on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, during the grand reception of Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, into the APC at the Jos Polo Field. Senator Mwadkwon served as Deputy Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the reception.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mwadkwon appreciated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the opportunities it offered him throughout his political career but described his decision to join the APC as a difficult yet necessary step in the interest of Plateau State and its people.

He pledged to leverage his legislative experience to attract infrastructure, youth empowerment programmes, humanitarian support, educational opportunities, and job creation to Plateau North, stressing that his focus remains people-centred development.

Guided by his philosophy of “Humanity First,” the former minority leader urged citizens to embrace peace, unity, and inclusiveness, while also commending APC leaders and the President for their assurances of increased federal presence and development interventions in Plateau State.

Vice President Kashim Shettima said joining the APC gives Plateau State a stronger voice at the national level, stressing that the party remains open and inclusive to all Nigerians. He noted that the APC provides a platform for unity, shared vision, and collective progress.

He explained that alignment with the ruling party will attract more federal presence to Plateau State, including infrastructure, social programmes, and economic opportunities. According to him, closer cooperation with the federal government will fast-track development and improve the lives of citizens.

Sen. Shettima added that the APC is driven by teamwork, diversity, and service, urging Plateau people to embrace peace and cooperation. He assured them of the President’s commitment to supporting the state through meaningful and people-focused interventions.

Earlier, National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, has said that the APC is committed to unity, justice, and inclusiveness. He assured that everyone, regardless of previous political affiliation, will have equal opportunities to contribute to the party’s growth and development.

Prof. Yilwatda emphasized that the integration of new members strengthens the party’s capacity to deliver good governance, promote peace, and ensure social justice across Plateau State. He encouraged all members to actively participate in party programmes and assured them of full support in advancing the state’s development agenda.

Also speaking, The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, described the recent political realignment as a historic moment for Plateau, aimed at strengthening the state’s position in national politics. He emphasized that the move to the APC is a strategic effort to unite the people of Plateau, align with the President’s vision, and ensure that the state plays a decisive role in the 2027 elections.

Governor Mutfwang assured citizens that the government remains committed to peace, prosperity, and development across the state. He urged all Plateau residents to join hands in the APC, promising that the administration will continue to serve the people faithfully across religious and ethnic divides, safeguarding their trust and promoting inclusive governance.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Prince Simon Mwadkwon, PhD, has successfully concluded an extensive consultation tour across the Plateau North Senatorial District, engaging political leaders, elders, and stakeholders at the grassroots.

The week-long tour underscored the senator’s consultative leadership style and his commitment to transparency as he weighs a major political decision with implications for Plateau State and beyond.

Senator Mwadkwon visited all six Local Government Areas of Plateau North—Barkin Ladi, Bassa, Jos East, Jos South, Jos North, and Riyom—where he met with elders, stakeholders, and officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He explained that the consultations were to formally inform them of his intention to align with the Governor of Plateau State in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to continue contributing to unity, growth, and development at both state and national levels.

During the engagements, the former lawmaker recalled that all the political offices he had occupied, from Local Government Chairman to Senator and Senate Minority Leader, were mandates freely given to him by the PDP and the people of Plateau State.

He stressed that out of respect and appreciation for the party and the people who supported him over the years, it was necessary to consult widely before making any move to another political platform.

“This consultation affords me the opportunity to listen to your opinions, seek your counsel and solicit your prayers,” Senator Mwadkwon said during the tour.

The senator also used the opportunity to engage elders, stakeholders, and some officials of the All Progressives Congress, formally informing them of his intention to join the party.

He said the engagement with the APC was aimed at ensuring smooth integration, mutual understanding, and positive contribution to the party, adding that destiny is determined by God and cannot be taken by any individual.

Across the six local governments, PDP leaders commended Senator Mwadkwon for the honour and courtesy of consulting them before exiting the party, describing him as a role-model politician who had consistently shown commitment to party growth.

Though they expressed sadness over his decision to leave, the PDP leaders wished him well and prayed for divine guidance and success in his future political journey.

Similarly, APC leaders at the grassroots praised his approach, describing him as a people-oriented leader who values consultation and inclusiveness.

They noted that Senator Mwadkwon stood out as the only defector who formally identified with and consulted the party at the grassroots before joining, pledging their support to work with him for the development of Plateau State and Nigeria.

The rigorous consultation tour, which lasted over one week, was successfully concluded last weekend, with Senator Mwadkwon accompanied by members of his campaign team led by the Director General, Hon. Dalyop Mancha.

Former Senate Minority Leader and onetime senator representing Plateau North, Simon Mwadkwon, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mwadkwon announced his defection on Thursday during a visit to elders of the APC in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, where he formally declared his intention to align with the ruling party.

“I am here to formally announce my entry into the APC and to seek the counsel of party elders at the grassroots,” the former lawmaker said during the visit.

He explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political stakeholders, family members, and associates across the Plateau North Senatorial District.

According to him, the move represents a strategic political realignment aimed at improving collaboration and strengthening representation at the national level.

“This realignment is driven by the desire to work more effectively with leaders who share a commitment to improving governance and ensuring that the voices of our people are heard at key decision-making levels,” Mwadkwon stated.

The former minority leader also disclosed his intention to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat on the platform of the APC in the 2027 general election.

He added that his defection was part of a deliberate effort to contribute to the growth and strengthening of the APC in Plateau State.

Welcoming him into the party, the Chairman of the APC Elders’ Council in Barkin Ladi, Solomon Bature, described the defection as a positive development, noting that the party remains open to all Nigerians willing to uphold its principles.

Bature urged party members to remain loyal and committed to the APC, stressing that unity and dedication were critical to the party’s success.

Mwadkwon was accompanied by several supporters, including former local government officials and party loyalists, during the visit.

The former lawmaker was elected senator for Plateau North in 2023 on the platform of the PDP, but his victory was later nullified by the Court of Appeal, which ordered a rerun election.

Former Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Plateau North in the 10th National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Simon Mwadkwon, PhD, has launched a major agricultural intervention aimed at supporting all-year-round farming and boosting food production across the Northern Zone of Plateau State.

As part of the initiative, Mwadkwon distributed 50 kilograms of fertilizer each to 1,200 farmers drawn from the six Local Government Areas of the Plateau North Senatorial District, including Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Bassa, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom Local Government Areas.

Speaking during the disbursement exercise held at his Campaign Office in Jos North, the senator said the gesture was inspired by his commitment to complement Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s agricultural policy on food security and sustainable farming.

He noted that his initial plan was to distribute 700 bags of fertilizer but decided to increase the number to 1,200 following overwhelming interest from farmers across the zone.

“This intervention is part of my commitment to support our farmers, boost food production, and reduce the food shortage currently affecting the nation,” Mwadkwon said. “I urge all beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs to improve their yields and contribute to ensuring food sufficiency.”

The senator emphasized the importance of continuous farming throughout the year as a strategy to end seasonal agricultural practices that limit productivity. He expressed optimism that the support would enhance yields, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s food value chain.

Mwadkwon recalled previous empowerment efforts, including the training and provision of sewing and grinding machines to local entrepreneurs, noting that he plans to sponsor the training of another 1,500 individuals to promote self-reliance and economic growth.

On the political scene, the former lawmaker urged PDP members and supporters to remain united and steadfast ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the party remains the preferred choice of Plateau people.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration and commended the governor for his visionary leadership and development-focused governance.

Hon. Dalyop Mancha, former member representing Jos South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, commended Senator Mwadkwon for his consistent commitment to community empowerment, describing him as a leader who continues to serve even outside public office.

Beneficiaries of the fertilizer intervention expressed joy and appreciation, noting that the gesture would greatly enhance their dry-season farming efforts and improve their productivity.

The event was attended by party leaders, community stakeholders, and supporters from across the Plateau North Senatorial District, reflecting the wide popularity and goodwill Senator Mwadkwon continues to enjoy among his constituents.

In a significant pre-election show of force, transport unions across Plateau State have collectively declared their support for Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Senator Simon Mwadkwon. This early endorsement, announced on Saturday, October 11, 2025, provides a considerable boost to the leaders’ political standing ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made at a gathering held at the Langfield Leisure Resort in Little Rayfield, Jos. The event brought together a powerful coalition of transport operators, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Keke NAPEP Operators Association, and other key groups under the banner of the Plateau State Transport Coalition.

Comrade Usaini Gunok, the Coordinator of the Coalition, stated that the decision was not made lightly. He explained that it followed a careful review of both Governor Mutfwang and Senator Mwadkwon’s performance and their demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the people of Plateau State.

Gunok specifically commended Governor Mutfwang for his administration’s direct investment in the transport sector. He described the government as “visionary and people-focused,” highlighting policies that have tangibly improved mobility and ease of movement for ordinary citizens across the state.

Turning to Senator Mwadkwon, Gunok praised the former Senate Minority Leader for his direct empowerment of transport operators. He cited the donation of tricycles, motorcycles, and vehicles to constituents in Plateau North as a key reason for their support, noting that these gestures have created jobs and strengthened local economies.

On behalf of the Governor, the State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Jatau Davou Gyang, welcomed the endorsement. He proudly described Governor Mutfwang as “the most transport-friendly leader the state has ever had,” crediting him with revitalizing a ministry that was previously barely visible to the public.

Hon. Davou provided concrete examples of the administration’s impact, pointing to a drastic reduction in transport costs for residents. He noted that commuters can now travel up to 20 kilometers within Jos for just ₦200. He also highlighted the success in aviation, with regular flights now operating into Jos.

In his address, Senator Simon Mwadkwon thanked the unions for their endorsement, calling it a “well-deserved” recognition of his and the Governor’s efforts. He framed the support as a reflection of the strong unity and mutual respect between the state’s leadership and its people.

Mwadkwon went beyond gratitude, making a direct pledge to the transport community. He promised to reciprocate their loyalty and assured them that when invited to future political rallies, they would be honored for their crucial role in the state’s development.

The event concluded with remarks from Hon.Sati Bature Shuwa, Chairman of Riyom LGA, who characterized the unions’ endorsement as a clear barometer of public trust. He called for continued unity and confidently affirmed that Plateau State remains a stronghold for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Simon Mwadkwon Fwet, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) stands no chance of winning the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State, insisting that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) remains deeply rooted and widely accepted by the people of the state.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the former lawmaker and seasoned administrator said Plateau’s political dynamics are unique and cannot be influenced by the ruling party at the national level. He noted that the PDP’s record of performance under Governor Caleb Mutfwang has endeared the party even more to the people.

Mwadkwon described Governor Mutfwang’s two years in office as transformational, saying that his administration has recorded visible progress across key sectors including agriculture, health, infrastructure, and peacebuilding.

According to him, Jos has witnessed significant improvement in sanitation and road network, making the city cleaner and more attractive than before. He added that the government’s agricultural reforms have boosted food production, job creation, and youth empowerment across the state.

“The new road networks for instance can attest to that and you will notice that before now Jos was filled with gabbage and the town was literarily smelling but all that has been taken care of and our city is looking clean and smarter than before,” Mwadkwon said.

He highlighted that the governor’s commitment to timely fertilizer distribution, youth training at BARC Farms in Zalaki, and all-year-round production of Plateau Potatoes have strengthened the state’s agricultural value chain.

“What he has done in this sector is to have food produced all year round and not seasonally as done in the past. You will also notice that our ‘Plateau Potatoes’ is now produced all year round thereby ramping up the food value chain in the state,” he added.

The former senator also lauded the administration’s achievements in peace and security, noting that Mutfwang’s inclusive approach, devoid of ethnic or religious bias, has promoted harmony and good neighborliness among Plateau citizens.

In the health sector, Mwadkwon applauded the governor for the massive upgrade of facilities at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, describing it as a major step toward quality healthcare delivery.

“I could go on and on but the point is that the governor has virtually touched every sector in the State and I will rate him at over 70 percent level of performance which you know is excellent and we just have to encourage him to do more so that he doesn’t get carried away for me he has done well,” he stated.

On the 2027 elections, Mwadkwon said Plateau people will not be swayed by partisan politics or the influence of the APC at the federal level.

“Though the APC is the ruling party at the national level I will categorically say that has nothing to do with Plateau and our dynamics is totally different,” he stressed.

He concluded by saying that the PDP remains the party to beat in Plateau State and expressed confidence that the party will retain power in the state and reclaim the presidency in 2027 by the grace of God.

Many local government chairmen, former lawmakers, and community leaders attended the event. They all spoke well of Senator Mwadkwon, saying he continues to serve the people even though he’s not currently in office.

A special moment at the event was the gift of a Peugeot 406 car to Mr. James Nyango, a loyal supporter of the senator, as a reward for his dedication.

Former Senate Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, Senator Simon Mwadkwon PhD, in collaboration with renowned legal luminary Barrister Emmanuel Menseh Madaki, on Friday, 4th July 2025, jointly submitted a memorandum advocating for the establishment of State Police in Nigeria at the Constitution Review Public Hearing.

The memorandum was officially presented by Senator Mwadkwon to the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution during the North Central Zonal Public Hearing held at Crispan Hotel and Suites in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

In his submission, Senator Mwadkwon emphasized the pressing need for more effective policing mechanisms to combat insecurity and criminality across the country. He argued that deploying security personnel who understand the local terrain and the peculiarities of specific communities is essential to achieving desired outcomes in addressing security challenges.

“Effective policing requires strong community engagement, problem-solving strategies, and proactive approaches to crime reduction,” Mwadkwon stated. “The security threats we face demand robust and localized strategies that will not only enhance national security but also promote the overall well-being of our citizens.”

He further stated that State Police would ensure a quicker response to early warning signals, bypassing the bureaucratic delays often associated with a centralized police system. Reaffirming his longstanding advocacy for the decentralization of the policing structure, he cited the persistent threats from terrorists and their sponsors as a major justification for this reform.

Senator Mwadkwon lamented the dire impact of insecurity on the populace, noting that it has led to a massive loss of lives and has severely disrupted livelihoods.

“The level of insecurity has forced many into a state of fear, depression, and abject poverty. Meeting basic needs has become a miracle for many Nigerians,” he said.

The lawmaker also highlighted the importance of reviewing the Constitution to reflect the current realities and aspirations of the Nigerian people. He described the Constitution Review process as a timely and welcome development.

He argued that a centralized policing system is no longer tenable for a country of over 200 million people and 774 local government areas. He recalled that Nigeria once operated a more decentralized structure — particularly in Northern Nigeria — where the Native Authority Police was effective in securing communities.

According to him, the advantage of a State Police system lies in its alignment with the principles of community policing, which requires linguistic, demographic, and geographical familiarity to be effective.

He stressed that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the protection of lives and property, as well as the welfare of its citizens, a mandate which, he noted, is currently not being adequately fulfilled.

“No amount of investment is too much when it comes to securing the lives and well-being of Nigerians,” he concluded.

Senator Mwadkwon was also on ground to receive and welcome members of the Senate Committee and other dignitaries who converged in Jos for the national assignment.

The North Central Zonal Public Hearing drew participants from various walks of life, including individuals, civil society groups, community-based organizations (CBOs), and other stakeholders, all of whom presented memoranda aimed at shaping the future of Nigeria through meaningful constitutional reform.
