The 16 APC and Labour Party members who were proclaimed the winners by the Appeal Court are to be sworn in by state assembly speaker Gabriel Dewan, at the request of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.
Remember that the speaker declared in January that he would not appoint the new members until the court made a decision about the lawsuit that the 16 PDP lawmakers who were sacked had filed?
On Tuesday, however, the appeal court dismissed the lawsuit and fined lawmakers who had been fired N128 million for trying to get their judgement overturned, citing the fact that their party had the necessary organisation to support candidates.
In a statement made in Jos in reference to the ruling on Tuesday, the APC’s assistant state publicity secretary, Nimzing Pyennap, urged the speaker to appoint the new members right once, citing the appellate court’s confirmation of their status as the legitimate election winners.
