The Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has set an ambitious target to surpass its revenue goals for 2025, following the success of its first-ever Strategic Retreat.

The three-day retreat, which gathered top officials and key stakeholders, was dedicated to transforming the state’s revenue collection system and positioning PSIRS to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) through innovative strategies.

In his remarks, PSIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Jim Pam Wayas, praised the retreat as a turning point for the Service. According to him, the retreat exposed the management and technical teams to global best practices in financial management and revenue generation. “This retreat was not just about discussions but about taking practical steps that will enhance our revenue collection. We now have the tools and insights needed to grow Plateau’s revenue base,” he said, expressing optimism about the Service’s future.

Reflecting on PSIRS’s 2024 performance, Dr. Wayas shared that the Service generated N31.42 billion out of its N38.8 billion target. While recognizing this as a positive achievement, he stated that the new strategies developed during the retreat would equip the Service to exceed the revenue targets for 2025. With renewed focus and stakeholder commitment, PSIRS is now poised to achieve unprecedented growth.

The retreat also featured a call to action from the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arch. Samuel N. Jatau, who stressed the importance of unity among revenue officials. “Effective tax collection is the backbone of the state’s development. It is essential that we work together, driven by a common goal, to ensure that revenue collection improves for the prosperity of Plateau,” he remarked, urging officials to collaborate for greater results.

In a similar vein, Barr. Philemon Daffi, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, applauded the Service’s efforts and called on participants to take the lead in securing the state’s economic future. He described PSIRS as the “engine room” of Plateau State’s development, emphasizing its role in driving growth through efficient tax management.

The retreat wrapped up with a firm commitment from participants to improve tax collection efficiency, introduce innovative financial strategies, and strengthen partnerships with stakeholders. The shared goal is to maintain transparency, accountability, and professionalism, ensuring that Plateau State remains on the path to sustainable economic growth in 2025 and beyond.
