The Coalition of Plateau Ethnic Youth Groups for Good Governance, Transparency, and Accountability held a press conference in Jos, urging an end to what it called a “campaign of calumny” against Professor Sunday Obong Etukudoh, Provost of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (FCMLST), Jos.
According to the Coalition, led by Chairman Comrade Stephen D. Kwa, the allegations of mismanagement against Prof. Etukudoh surfaced in the media, prompting the group to conduct its own investigation into the matter. The Coalition reached out to various stakeholders, including college staff, local community leaders, students, and government officials, in order to gather a balanced perspective.
“Our findings show that the smear campaign against Prof. Etukudoh is fueled by jealousy of his significant achievements as Provost,” Kwa stated. He described Etukudoh’s contributions as transformative, citing improved infrastructure, resource development, and notable achievements in academics and administration. Among the completed projects under Etukudoh’s leadership are a fully functional e-library, a multipurpose diagnostic lab, a modern science lab, and a borehole water system for both the college and the host community.
The Coalition also highlighted the progress made in academic programs, with FCMLST now hosting seven faculties of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science, starting from the 2023/2024 academic year. Additionally, the Coalition noted Etukudoh’s inclusive approach, which has led to employment and scholarship opportunities for local community members and Plateau natives.
The Coalition urged the Federal Government to release funds for ongoing projects at the college and called on Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to improve access roads to the institution, as he has done for the National Orthopedic Hospital in Jos.
The Coalition concluded with a vote of confidence in Prof. Etukudoh, emphasizing his dedication to Plateau State’s development and resilience in the face of adversity. “Though not a Plateau indigene, he has positively impacted the state more than many,” Kwa affirmed, adding, “The Lord is your strength, Prof. Etukudoh.”
