Herders in Plateau State have raised serious concerns over what they describe as a growing and dangerous trend of farmers using insecticides and harmful chemicals on farmlands to intentionally harm their cattle.

The herders, who spoke during a community dialogue facilitated by local peace groups, alleged that some farmers are now treating crops with toxic substances not only to repel animals but to cause fatal reactions when grazed upon.

They called on the state government and security agencies to urgently intervene before the situation escalates into further conflict, warning that such acts threaten peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in the region.

Leaders of the herder communities appealed for the revival of established grazing routes and stronger collaboration in resolving disputes, stressing the need for mutual respect and dialogue.

As of press time, no official statement had been issued by the Plateau State Government or the Farmers’ Union regarding the allegations.
