Hon. Sule Musa Haruna, the Plateau State Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering economic growth and industrial development.

This was disclosed to journalists by Hon. Haruna on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the state secretariat in Jos Plateau state, during the presentation of the ministry scorecard.

He stated that “Plateau state government through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry remains committed to driving economic growth, fostering industrial development, and promoting a conducive business environment.”

Emphasizing the importance of a conducive business environment, the commissioner outlined plans to implement strategic measures aimed at attracting investments, stimulating job creation, and enhancing the state’s economic landscape.

Plateau State wants to emerge as a major hub for sustainable development, with a renewed emphasis on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, providing enough possibilities for enterprises to thrive and contribute to the region’s overall prosperity.

Regarding achievements, Haruna highlighted the establishment of the Plateau State One-Stop Shop, aimed at reducing the cost of doing business, simplifying procedural steps, and enhancing investor tracking. He noted that this initiative had contributed to an improvement in the state’s ranking for ease of doing business. Before the establishment of this agency, we were ranking 14th, but now we are number 10”.

One significant achievement mentioned by Haruna was the completion and commissioning of the Duncan Fertilizer Company project, aimed at supporting farmers in the area. He also discussed ongoing projects like the cassava processing plant in Kuru, Jos South, emphasizing the ministry’s efforts to ensure their successful implementation.

Addressing challenges, Haruna spoke about the need to address issues such as erosion affecting the Kabong Satellite Market and the complexities surrounding the relocation of certain projects to more suitable locations with access to raw materials.

In terms of future plans, Haruna expressed the government’s commitment to strengthening support for existing projects and enhancing investment climate through sensitization and stakeholder collaboration. He also discussed initiatives to establish a potato processing plant and revitalize the main market, aiming to attract businesses and investment to the state.

Furthermore, Haruna underscored the importance of partnerships, mentioning discussions with the Bank of Industry for project financing and support for cooperative societies. He emphasized the ministry’s focus on creating opportunities for investment and industrial development, aiming to improve the quality of life for residents.

Haruna reiterated the ministry’s dedication to achieving its objectives and supporting economic growth in Plateau State through strategic planning, collaboration, and innovation.
