Hon. Chief Ephraim Usman, Plateau State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, revealed that the current administration had cleared N3.9 billion of the N4.6 billion salary and pension arrears owed to the state’s 17 local government workers.

Chief Usman made the statement on Wednesday in Jos while speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Information and Communication’s Ministerial Press Briefing.

The Commissioner stated that efforts are being made to clear all outstanding arrears for LGA staff and pensioners within the next several months.

“The present administration inherited 4.6 billion salaries and pension arrears from the previous administration at the LGAs level. So far, N1.7 billion naira primary teachers’ arrears have been cleared. N1.2 billion naira out of the over 1.6 billion naira arrears of local government employees has also been settled. and out of the over 1 billion naira Local government pension arrears inherited , only about 300 million is still outstanding.

He further stated that the ministry, in partnership with ALGON, purchased 35 Hillux vehicles for Operation Rainbow to enhance the security architecture at the grassroots level.

According to him, the ministry, in collaboration with the 17 LGAs, has already paid N200 million in inherited unpaid allocations to Operation Rainbow in order to boost state security.
